After getting my Cosmetology License in 2008, I started working in a salon right away. I had stayed at one salon for 7 years.
The main reason I chose to venture off on my own and looked into renting a studio was one word…. FREEDOM!
I am my own boss, I make my own hours, I book my own appointments.
I am a full time mom, trainer and hairdresser. Working in a salon, you allow someone else to put a cap on the amount of money you can earn.
The best advice I can give someone who is currently working in a salon and knows in the back of their mind they're worth SO much MORE:

Why I Chose Artista Beauty Studios >
I started my beauty career as a traveling free-lance Make Up Artist (while also working a full-time job). Then, I discovered Lash Extensions! At the time, there were few Lash Stylists in the area & I recognized Lash Extensions as not only a sensible extension of my Make Up business,
but as also a great career opportunity.
I've always had an entrepreneurial spirit (and an affinity for risk taking), and so I decided to dive in, head first! I actually rented my first studio, an office space in a commercial building, before I even finished my Lash Extension training course!
Through the magic of Social Media marketing, I was able to grow my lash business much faster than I had ever anticipated. After about a year, my long time friend, Ebony (owner of the very successful HAIRista Studio in Hampton, VA), and I decided to partner together and open
Artista Beauty Studios!
Today, I continue to run my Lash Extension & Make Up business out of my own Salon Studio at Artista Beauty Studios, while simultaneously running the Artista business!
Personally, working for a salon was never an option for me. I invested my own time & my own money into learning and perfecting my own craft & cultivating my own talent; why would I hand over any of the profit to someone else?

As a stylist for 25 years, after continuing to grow my clientele, I finally made the decision 3 years ago to start my own business.
I just wasn't making what I felt I should be working for a salon. As a single mom, having the flexibility is key. When I work and when I take time off is my decision.
